Chapter 2

Does learning happen by magic? There are some times that magic is really needed to understand what teachers try to teach to her students. The reason of this may be related to the nature of learning, which is the truth of not having a specified way to teach something to someone. However, there are leading theories and perspectives in the literature of education such as behaviorism, cognitivism and constructivism. When I was in first grade at METU, I had an EDUS course which is taught by very prominent woman figure for the family of METU. The ultimate aim of the course was to teach basic principles of psychological perspective of teaching and learning. The way course instructor teach was both versatile and beneficial. The reason I think like that is because of her style. While she was teaching a psychological perspective, she was teaching that course according to the style that was advised by that perspective during a course period. Furthermore, she was integrating the modern technology into the course in order to bridge between her students mind and the goal of the course. She was using internet, some educational software and so on. One day, as an example to form an estimate about her style, she was teaching behaviorism using chocolate as stimulus which was fairly effective even though we were aware of the situation. In a nutshell, she was good at her job because of her urge to follow whatever trend is in education area.
